Butterflies

My sister Emily is a preschool teacher and each year does a butterfly activity. This year she got Logan his own butterfly kit to do at home. They came in the mail as teensy teensy caterpillars, about the size of ants. Within a week they were HUGE. I would say at least 15X bigger. Then they crawl to the top of their jar and cocoon. After they are all cocooned you take them out of the jar and stick them in the habitat. After another one came out yesterday and the rest came out today. Logan loved this project and seeing it each step of the way. Right now we are feeding them watermelon and when the weather gets a little warmer we will set them free. Thank you so much Emily. Logan loved it!

These are the caterpillars after a couple days. I should have taken a picture when we first got them.

Its hard to see, but these are the cocoons.

And here are the butterflies. The red stuff is not blood. We don't really know what it is, except that online it says its not blood its just what happens when they come out of their cocoons.

That sounds like a very fun project to do especially for these little kids! I might have to look into one of those.
